NSW Youth Roundtable
Saturday 9 August saw the first statewide Youth Roundtable occur in the
Plast House, Lidcombe, NSW. The roundtable was run under the auspices of
the Ukrainian Council of NSW however was fully organised by the youth of
Sydney - Druzhynnyky and Starshi Plastuny. It was a conference organised
by youth for youth.
Among the participants were several starshi yunaky and yunachky as well as
druzhynnyky of CYM, and also other young people representing different
organisations in NSW in which youth are members of.
During the program, participants discussed issues relevant to Ukrainian
youth in today's day, for example, what does it mean to be Ukrainian in
Australia, and also what does Ukraine mean to them. During the course
of the day issues raised were put into some order of importance, eg tradition,
culture, language, and then action plans were formed on how the situation
or problem can be resolved.
Upon completion of the program youth felt satisfied that they had achieved something
and are now ready to put their action plans into place. A second roundtable
will be planned for the upcoming year so keep your eyes peeled!
