To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Man-Made Great Famine in Ukraine of 1932-1933, a series of events will be organized in the City of New York during the week of November 10-15, 2003, which has been titled "Famine Remembrance Week."
The week's events will conclude on Saturday, November 15th with a "March of Remembrance" and a Solemn Requiem Service to be held at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The staging point for the "March of Remembrance" is St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church located on 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. We invite the entire community to take part in this march in order to raise awareness of the most concealed, the most denied, the most lied-about genocide in the history of man's inhumanity to man.
We urge all participants to wear their Ukrainian embroidered blouses/shirts and carry Ukrainian flags draped with black ribbons.
Participants are asked to gather at 11AM in order to be prepared for the 11:45AM departure to St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The final destination point of the "March of Remembrance" will be St. Patrick's Cathedral, located at 51st Street and 5th Avenue, where a Solemn Requiem Service will be held at 2PM to honor the victims of the Man-Made Great Famine.
The Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox hierarchies will concelebrate the requiem service, with the participation of the Dumka Choir of New York.
Following the service, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Nations, Valeriy Kuchynsky, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Negroponte, New York State Senator, Charles Schumer will address the gathering.
