National 5-a-side Tournament
13 teams took place in this years National 5-a-side tournament which took place on the 29th October 2005 in Stockport. Teams represented branches from Manchester, Ashton, Bradford, Nottingham, Rochdale and Scotland. The competition was close and it took several hours of football to determine a winner. Scotland played Manchester A in the first semi-final, which saw Manchester A go through, while Bradford challenged Nottingham in the other semi-final with Nottingham emerging victorious. Scotland gained 3rd place by beating Bradford.
The final took place between Manchester A and the holders Nottingham. Nottingham were fighting to retain there trophy, but Manchester were determined to take it for themselves. The game was close, emotions were raised, adrenaline was pumping and the supporters were shouting. When the referee blew his final whistle, the Nottingham team were celebrating their victory.
After the excitement of a day’s football, the players and supporters made their way to the Stockport Ukrainian club. A presentation was made to the winners, runners up and 3rd place play-off. Once the trophy had been paraded, everyone settled down to eat. The footballers and supporters didn't settle for long, The chorni morski kozaky started to play. The zabava got into full swing. Players from all sides joined in to dance the kolomyka. The atmosphere was electric, those who had been opposing each other earlier on the football field were now eating, drinking and dancing together. The tournament once again proved a great opportunity for UYA members (and non-members) to come together and unite.
