Okruzhnyi Zdvyh in Bradford
On Sunday 13th June 2004, the Okruzhnyi Zdvyh, Zhid, (CYM Regional Rally, East) took place in Bradford, under this year's haslo - "Our Mother Tongue Unites Us".
The day began traditionally with Mass at the Ukrainian Catholic Church, where sumivti and their vykhovnyky partook in the service in their CYM uniforms.
Unfortunately, of all the North-Eastern oseredky, only Bradford took part in the Zdvyh this year. The official ceremony took place in the gardens of the Ukrainian Club in Bradford. Holova of Oseredok Bradford, druh Stefan Jarockyj, lead the proceedings and invited older sumivka, podruha Katrusia Prodywus, from Bradford, to read the CYM Order for 2004. Druh Wolodymyr Szlachetko, Holova Okruhy and the representative from Krayova Uprava, then addressed the sumivti and the local community.
The competition took place after the official ceremony. Young sumivka, Chrystyna Pichovich, recited a poem "Our Mother Tongue" and gained first place. Oseredok Bradford also entered two vocal acts, a mixed youth choir ("We Are Ukrainian Children", words and music by podruha Maria Danylczuk of Bradford) and three Ukrainian folk dances - one in each age category (7-12, 13-17, 18 upwards). Each entrant gained 1st place and has progressed to the Krayovyi Zdvyh (National Rally) in Tarasivka on 3rd July.
