Panakhyda in memory of Stepan Bandera
& Open World Program
A panakhyda service was held on Saturday, October 16th, 2010 with members of both CYM and Plast in attendance at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in memory of Stepan Bandera. CYM held a short program in the church hall regarding the life and times of our Ukrainian national hero – Stepan Bandera. Afterwards, we were lucky enough to have delegates from the Open World program present to engage in lively discussions with youth about the current political climate in Ukraine and what lies in the future.
The Kyiv Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International hosted a Ukrainian delegation of five professionals from October 15 – 23, 2010. Through their participation in the Open World program, the delegation spent a week in Chicago examining accountable governance. Open World is designed to enhance understanding and explore opportunities for cooperation between the United States and the countries of Eurasia by developing a network of leaders in the region who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America’s democratic, accountable government and free-market system.
