Our 50th-1999 | 50th Anniversary Oselia in Baraboo-2011

Fried varenyky, kovbasa on a stick, Ukrainian cows, Ukrainian dancing and singing for entertainment - what more could one ask for? Selo-fest at Chicago CYM was alive with Ukrainian songs, dancing, and even performances by our very own theatrical group. The hall was decorated festively with scenes from a true Ukrainian Selo. Even the tables were adorned with cows of fashion with "vinky" on their heads. Casual finger foods were served throughout the day, keeping everyone fed and happy.

Myron Kulas, a.k.a., Professor Marmalyga, was master of ceremonies. Families and friends got together to enjoy the traditional dances of our dance ensemble Ykpaina, under the choreography of John Szalewa and our dance school groups, Mria and Vodohraj, under the choreography of Boris Skrinnik. Our littlest dancers, Metelyky, put on quite a show, under the direction of Natalia Poliwka..

Our theatrical group, "tyazchko na emigrasiyi" led by Myron Kulas entertained the crowd with some wonderful skits and even showed off their "selyanski xop". Professor Marmalyga even led the crowd with a sing-a-long of a few traditional Ukrainian songs.

Our vocal ensemble "Vinok" also dazzled us with a few modern renditions of a "vyazanka". They added a new twist to their group with band members Mark Pawlos, Markian Popowych, Nick Kulas, Michael Bozio, Petro Krutiak and Terry Fafendyk providing backup.

Our choir ended the day with a "vyazanka" of "cymivski songs". What a great finale!

Our fest was received with much enthusiasm. The guests felt they were in a very relaxed and casual atmosphere, much different than a traditional concert. The setting seemed to work and everyone is looking forward to another Selo Fest next year.

Many thanks to Kathy Kulas, and her Selo Fest Committee. Congratulations on a successful event!!
