"Yalynka" 2002

Our traditional Yalynka was held February, 10, 2002 in the CYM hall in Chicago. Sumenyata, yunatstvo - moldshi and starshi, druzhynnyky, and many parents and grandparents gathered together to celebrate our event. Podruha Chrystya Kosacz greeted everyone with "Chrystos Razdayetsya" and talked about September 11th and how it affected the world. Yunatstvo was on stage ready to perform songs and poems that were said by roji "Lysychky", "Zaporozchi", and "Fijalky".
Podruha Chrystya then introduced Rev. Bohdan Nalysnyk, rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Chicago, who did the opening prayer and spoke briefly about Yalynka and CYM. Also in attendance were Rt. Rev. Ivan A. Krotec, pastor of Sts. Volodymyr & Olha Parish in Chicago, along with Rev. Yaroslav Mendyuk, Rev. Oleh Kryvokulsky and Rev. Volodymyr Hudzan from St. Nicholas Cathedral. While everyone started to partake of the delicious food prepared by the parents of our young memebers, Podruha Chrystya introduced the holova of our Oseredok, Podruha Chrystya Wereszczak, who gave her annual "state-of-CYM" address which explains to everyone the events of our oseredok during the year of 2001 to the present. Afterwards, the CYM choir, under the direction of Dryh Volodymyr Popowycz, sang a medley of Ukrainian Christmas carols.
Pryvity were given from representatives from various Ukrainian institutions and organizations: Mr. Orest Baranyk, President of YKKA-Chicago Branch, Dryh Ivan Pawlyk from Selfreliance Ukrainian American Federal Credit Union, and fellow sumivets Dryh Pawlo Bandriwsky from 1st Security Federal Savings Bank which contributed a generous donation for our oseredok. After the pryvity, there was a first time performance of a jazz band, who's members are newly immigrated ukrainians and sumivsti, who played several well-known songs.
Podruha Chrystya Kosacz then introduced Rt. Rev. Ivan A. Krotec, pastor of Sts. Volodymyr & Olha, to do the closing prayer. The jazz band then played a few more songs as people stayed and had an opportunity to see others that they haven't seen since last year.
