- 8/30-31/2008 - 57th Annual Zdvyh Gathering
On Labor Day weekend, the UAYA Philadelphia Branch participated at the 57th Annual Zdvyh Gathering at Oselia CYM in Ellenville, NY.
- 9/13/2008 - Informal Opening
Our branch unofficially kicked off its 2008-2009 season with a day of icebreakers, fun & games and ice cream sundaes!
- 9/27/2008 - Official Opening of 2008-2009 Season
Our branch officially began the 2008-2009 season with its opening ceremony.
- 10/5/2008 - Pilgrimage Under the Protection of the Mother of God
Some members of our branch attended the 77th Annual Pilgrimage Under the Protection of the Mother of God. The Pilgrimage was held at Fox Chase Manor, PA.
- 10/19/2008 - Panakhyda in Honor of Stepan Bandera
The UAYA Philadelphia Branch attended a Panakhyda in honor of OUN leader Stepan Bandera at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jenkintown, PA.
- 11/2/2008 - Day of Endurance
Our branch enjoyed a beautiful autumnal day at Lorimer Park during its annual Day of Endurance. Activities included a nature hike, a competitive game of football and a good old Ukrainian song session.
- 11/15-16/2008 - 25th National Assembly of the UAYA
Members from our branch's Executive Board attended the 25th National Assembly of the UAYA, held in Detroit, MI. Some of our members also received promotions in rank!
- 11/22/2008 - Special Official Ceremony in Honor of St. Michael the Archangel
Our branch held a Special Official Ceremony in honor of the UAYA's patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel.
- 12/14/2008 - Annual Christmas Bazaar & Visit From St. Nicholas
The UAYA Philadelphia Branch held its annual Christmas Bazaar at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melrose Park, PA. The afternoon was full of delicious Ukrainian foods, Christmas shopping and even a visit from St. Nicholas himself, who gave all the children presents!
- 12/20/2008 - Annual Christmas Tree Ceremony
The UAYA Philadelphia Branch held its annual Christmas Tree Ceremony. Along with a "Vertep," Ukrainian Christmas carols were sung, traditions were practiced and delicious snacks were enjoyed!
- Caroling
The UAYA Philadelphia Branch continued its longtime tradition of going caroling for residents in the greater Philadelphia area.
- 1/17/2009 - Annual New Year's "Malanka" Dance
Our branch once again rang in the New Year with a fun New Year's "Malanka" Dance! Everyone enjoyed themselves with friends (new and old) and danced all night long to the sounds of the band "Hrim."
- 2/13-15/2009 - Annual Winter Trip
Our branch once again spent President's Day weekend at Oselia CYM in Ellenville, NY. The relaxing weekend included much sledding, an intense hockey game, arts and crafts activities, a warm bonfire and a Valentine's Day Dinner. A good time was had by all!
- 3/21/2009 - Bowling & Laser Tag Trip
Our branch had a great time bowling and playing Laser Tag at the Brunswick Zone XL!
- 4/4/2009 - 2009 "CYM Yonkers" Volleyball Tournament
Some of our members and oldest youth girls once again competed at the annual Yonkers Volleyball Tournament. The oldest youth girls competed superbly, claiming second place in their age group!
- 4/11/2009 - Easter Honor Guard
The Philadelphia Branch continued its tradition of holding Easter Honor Guard at Our Lord's Tomb on Holy Saturday. This year, Easter Honor Guard was held at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Philadelphia and at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jenkintown, PA the following Saturday, which celebrates Easter according to the Julian calendar.
- 4/25/2009 - Visit from Captain Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper
Members of our branch had the honor of meeting Captain Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper, a Ukrainian-American NASA astronaut. The youth had the chance to talk with her during Ukrainian School while members of our Executive Board met with her at a seperate luncheon.
- 5/1-3/2009 - World Counselor Conference of the Ukrainian Youth Association
Several senior and junior counselors from our branch attended the World Counselor Conference of the Ukrainian Youth Association, which was hosted by the St. Catharines Branch in Ontario, Canada.
- 5/23-24/2009 - 50th Annual UAYA Zlet
Our branch spent Memorial Day weekend competing against 12 other branches at the 50th Annual Zlet jamboree. Philadelphia finished in sixth place.
- 5/30/2009 - Fixing the Graves of Our Departed Members
Our branch spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery and Lawnview Cemetery fixing the graves of members that are no longer with us. With much teamwork, we were able to weed and plant flowers at over 35 graves.
- 5/30/2009 - "Druzhynnyk" Phillies Outing
Some of our "Druzhynnyky" met up for a fun tailgate and to watch the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Washington Nationals 9-6.
- 6/7/2009 - UAYA Youth Day
The Philadelphia Branch of the UAYA concluded its 2008-2009 season with "Youth Day" at the Ukrainian American Sport Center, "Tryzub" in Horsham, PA. Members of the branch earned various awards and promotions, participated in a Divine Liturgy, ate good Ukrainian food and spent one last day with one another before the summer! The youth members also put on a cultural program for our guests!
- 6/13/2009 - General Assembly of the UAYA Philadelphia Branch
Our branch held its General Assembly during which officer reports were read, important branch topics were discussed and next year's Executive Board was elected.
