This year, as always, sumivtsi in Manchester commemorated the battle at Kruty. On 30th January 2005 after Mass at the Ukrainian Catholic Church, sumivtsi of all ages from sumenyata to seniors took part in a Requiem Service to pray for the souls of the young heroes who died at Kruty.

Later, at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Manchester, sumivtsi, their parents and guests gathered for a formal remembrance ceremony, to honour the heroes who gave their lives for their country at Kruty. Genia Mandzij led the proceedings where junior and older members took an active part in the programme, reading the Order of the day, poems and historical accounts.

Taking advantage of our “CYM Day” the chairman of Manchester Branch, Ewhen Kochan, presented badges and certificates to all 26 chidren who had reached the next level in their CYM achievements.
