Kruty

On Sunday 1st February 2004, members of the Ukrainian Youth Association marked the anniversary of the battle near Kruty in which many young ukrainians died. After Mass, Father Y. Riy conducted a requiem service at the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Members of all ages stood together holding candles and the flag of their (oseredok) branch and said prayers in memory of the heroes.

After the service, the members gathered at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre for a commemorate event. The event, led by G. Mandzij, began with a prayer. A historical account of the battle of Kruty was read out by the older boys, followed by an English translation by the girls.

Two poems were also read out to mark the occasion.

The national anthem brought the proceedings to a close. M. Kopczyk, a representative of the national committee, and other guests congratulated all the participants and the branch. They all agreed that the leaders and parents should be proud of such a good performance as it is not always easy for the younger members to perform in ukrainian.
