International Thinking Day is an evening for the Brownies to think about other children (e.g from other youth organisations) throughout the world
to promote international friendship and understanding. As Stefka Lytwyn, Ariana Lytwyn and Krystyna Kowalyshyn belong to CYM as well as
Brownies, the head of the group, Brown Owl, wanted to give the Brownies a feeling of what other organisation take part in.
She invited them to showcase their culture in the evening.
Stefka, Ariana and Krystyna each dressed in a selection of ukrainian costumes - National and Hutszul dress.
The three girls explained where Ukraine was with the help of a map and globe. They also talked about what they did in CYM and the similarities between the two organisations.
They explained why their grandparents came over and how they went to CYM and Brownies to experience the culture and traditions of their anscestors and their surroundings.
The tables were set and the Brownies got a taste of Ukrainian food - Borsch, Varenyky, Medivnyk and Hrustyky made naturally by mums and grandma.
The girls were divided on the taste of the new foods, but everyone tried just a little bit including many who didn't like the look of it to start with!
They also talked about and showed some Pysanky - ukrainian easter eggs, in step by step stages.
Then the Brownies split up into groups and the three girls gave the Brownies a taster of Ukrainian folk dancing.
They showed the Brownies some steps and let them have a go.
The dancing made an obvious impact when the girls were found practising the steps the next day at school!
The brownies found it an exciting change to their normal games and crafts.
All involved were very pleased with the evenings success and impressed with the Ukrainian Youth Associations diverse activities.
