NATIONAL CYM RALLY 2006
On 1st July 2006 with the most beautiful sunshine at our beautiful campsite Tarasivka, the Ukrainian Youth Association held its Annual National Rally. Sumivtsi from Manchester again came out in great number. At the official ceremony we set a new record of 88 of our members from sumenyata to seniors all present and correct in front of the chapel.
Our branch chairman Ewhen Kochan and his team of “techies” from Manchester were responsible as usual for all the sound and light systems both for the official opening ceremony and in the huge marquee where the competition was held.
Work in preparation for the National Rally starts well before the official ceremony. Senior members and druzhynyky from Manchester help everywhere to ensure the smooth running of the Rally: they welcome everyone at the gate and sell entrance tickets and parking coaches and cars, they help out in the kitchen and also sell refreshments, they clear up and prepare the hall for the dance in the evening.
At the same time, entering 10 performances in the competition meant there were a vast number of sumivchi to coordinate. The performers ranged in age from sumenyata (under 6s) to seniors (50+). At the National competition this year, Manchester won 7 first and 3 second places.
In the evening there was a dance for everyone who still had enough energy to party till dawn.
