Mother's Day
Our sumivtsi began preparing for Mother's Day well in advance of this special day. With the help
of podruha Nataliya, the youth embroidered coasters, as well as painted miniature scenes for their
mothers.
On the eve before Mother's Day, sumivtsi, along with their mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers, gathered at the Ukrainian Youth Centre to celebrate their dearest mothers with poetry and gifts.
Our evening began with Rev. Father Serhiy leading us in prayer for our mothers.
Following a tasty dinner, our MC, Ihor Bohdan, accompanied by Mike Musienko lead us all in singing "Ridna Maty Moya" by A. Malyshka and P. Majboroda.
"Blessed are those with mothers…"
Many such verses were recited by grateful children throughout the evening.
Words to describe a mother, a wife such as "pretty, good-natured, generous, busy as a bee…" There are many descriptive words to describe women,
but try doing so in a 5 minute competition. Our sumivtsi were unrivalled in this contest!
"Mother's hands are generous, hard-working…"
How easy is it to recognize your mother's hands with your eyes blind-folded? Turns out, it isn't so difficult for our sumivtsi.
All the mothers received gifts from their children.
Our celebrating continued well into the late hours with a zabava of energizing Ukrainian music.
Thanks go out to all who helped make this evening a success, especially to podruha Marusia for the ideas, decor, dinner and everything else.
Thank you!
