The evening of December 11, 2005 was filled with people attending the Festival of Carols at the
Ukrainian Cultural Centre. Ukrainian Calgarians and their family and friends started off the Christmas
season with this annual event. Halya Lypsky opened the evening by underlying the importance of
preserving our national traditions, and in particular, our Ukrainian carols.
As in previous years, the Festival began with all the choirs singing "Boh Predvichnyy" under
the direction of Linda Dudar.
Our CYM choir traditionally takes part in this Festival. This year Halya Lypsky's assistant was Stephania
Romaniuk. Unfortunately, she was unable to conduct our CYM choir, as she was in Winnipeg applying for university.
Our sumivtsi performed a contemporary koliyada "Na Sviat Vechir" as well as a traditional one, "Oy dyvnoye narozhdenniya".
The evening concluded with all the choirs singing :Silent Night" under the direction of Edward Sakundiak.
