Sviatyy Mykolaj
In keeping with the winter feasts, CYM Calgary prepared a concert in honor of St. Mykolai.
While our sumenyata were learning songs and poems with podruha Marusia, our yunatstvo were busy learning carols with podruha Halya,
and together with podruhy Nataliya and Mariya, prepared a play for St. Mykolai.
In the days prior to the concert, our domivka was transformed into an improvised theatre. With the help of vykhovnyky and parents, part
of the hall became the inside of a peaceful home on the eve of St. Mykolai, while the other part was filled with an audience of parents,
grandparents and friends.
The concert began with our yunatstvo singing Christmas carols.
Next, our sumenyata performed to the delight of everyone present.
In the "evening" of the arrival of St. Mykolai, the children (Yulia, Solomia, Andrei and Zenko) tried to guess what Mykolai would bring them.
All discussions aside, it was now time to go to sleep. The home becomes filled with angels and little devils.
"Weighing" the good and the bad deeds of the children, St. Mykolai leaves gifts for the sleeping children under their pillows.
Nevertheless, the devil leaves his own gift of switches for each child. In the morning, the children are thrilled with their gifts from
Mykolai!
Mykolai then handed gifts out to the rest of the children at our concert. The next day, sumivtsi, along with Ukrainian School students, took part in the Parish concert at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
