Year-end at CYM
To end off our school year at CYM, a three day camp was planned for June 6-8, 2008. Although the weather interfered with some of our
planned activities, the facilities at Camp Chestermere allowed us to have a great time, regardless of the weather.
This camp was not only for the youth, but also for the parents.
On our first evening at camp, we gathered at the indoor vatra (bonfire) for a lengthy sing-along accompanied by guitar.
The following day, we were divided into our groups for a full day of hourly activities. We weren't able to go canoeing or do archery
due to the rain. We also could not have the planned hutirky on the "island", but had to use a classroom. Nonetheless, the adults
and youth had an opportunity to try rock-climbing the roof, under the direction of the camp's instructor, Karl.
Our youth participated in various physical activities in the gymnasium such as basketball, soccer and floor hockey.
We also had a chance for some creative activity. It seems the adults were the most engrossed in their silk-painting/batik. They spent
a lot of time on their works of art and only broke from their concentration for lunch.
We joined the sumenyata to watch some cartoons. In the evening we had a zabava for the youth where they danced and sang.
Our Sunday began with Divine Liturgy with our chaplain, Father Serhiy.
After breakfast we had our closing ceremony with included the receipt of merit badges and certificates for a productive year.
With this being the 60th anniversary of CYM in Canada, our branch presented a commemorative icon of our patron St. Archangel Michael
to our chaplain, Father Serhiy.
