What an absolutely breathtaking performance from Verchovyna yesterday afternoon at the Ukrainian House in Essendon!
On Sunday, 21st September, the Verchovyna Spring Concert 2008 saw all class levels of the CYM Melbourne's Verchovyna
Dance Ensemble perform a diverse and colourful repertoire which included a delightful guest appearance from the CYM Dance Group in
Geelong, the Lastivka junior dancers. The 2 hour energetic performance exhibited dances from various regions of Ukraine: Bereznyanka,
Tropotyanka, Hutsul's Flight and many others. The conclusion to the first half of the concert brought something totally new to our
Ukrainian stage - a merging of Ukrainian tradition with the phenomenon of Hip-Hop.
The finale featured Ukraine's signature dance, the
Hopak (choreographed by our very own talented Artistic Director Melanie Moravski) which brought a fitting end to a great afternoon of
Ukrainian dance. It is through our many talented and dedicated instructors that we can continue to bring to life our heritage, our
culture.
Congratulations to Melanie Moravski and all the Dance Instructors for your great contribution to Verchovyna & CYM. For such events to
take place there is a great team of people behind the scenes. Their contribution to Verchovyna & CYM is also to be congratulated:
Verchovyna's administration team, costume designers, backstage and technical crews, and the many parent helpers.
