Each year members of CYM Canberra-Queanbeyan Oseredok (Branch) attend St, Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church to participate in the Velykodnia Piatnytsia Vespers. We were pleased to have amongst us Druzhynnyky Stepan Duma and Andrij Suchowersky from Oseredok CYM Sydney.
For Ukrainians, the Velykodnia Piatnytsia Vespers is a sacred and important part of our lives.
The Velykodnia Piatnytsia Vespers commenced at 3 p. m. Parish Priest, Father Oleh Stefanyshyn, conducted the Velykodnia Piatnytsia Vespers, with molodshe yunak Markian Stefanshyn assisting.
CYM and Plast members in uniform, stood guard (styika) beside the Plashchenytsia, as the faithful respectfully approached.
Velykodnia Piatnytsia is a link to our forefathers who understood the beauty of our Ukrainian faith, and when CYM was formed passed this onto successive generations. This is demonstrated in our participation in the Velykodnia Piatnytsia Vespers, where the ages ranged from 5 years (Sumeniata Andrijko Stefanyshyn) to 87 years (podryha Sophia Jacyszyn).
