Preparations under way for the
VIII World Zlet
On 26-27 January, 2009, Stepan Duma (the World Executive's Referent Druzhynnyiv) and Lida Jendzjowsky met with members of the Ukrainian community and the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vancouver, Canada, to discuss plans and preparations for the VIII World Zlet of Druzhynnyky which is to take place during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Members of the Parish Council of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church gave Stepan and Lida a tour of their grounds, located in downtown Vancouver, the site of the proposed “base camp” of the Zlet. Meetings were also held with the Honorary Consul of Ukraine for British Columbia – Lubomyr Huculak; the Bishop of New Westminster for Ukrainian Catholics in British Columbia and the Yukon – the Most Reverend Ken Nowakowski; and the President of the Congress of Ukrainians in Canada (British Columbia branch) – Anatolij Ciacka, who greeted and invited all CYM members around the world to British Columbia during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Detailed discussions were held with Walter Zavadel, Director of Events for Western Canada of the Canadian Friends of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine; and Myrna Aryschuk, the owner of Solaway Travel Ltd. Walter Zavadel has been working with the organising committee of the VIII World Zlet of Druzhynnyky since early 2008 and is helping with preparations at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vancouver, while Myrna Aryschuk is helping with all the day tours being organised during the Zlet.
