Shortly after the headgasket job a ticking noise appeared. I think it sounds like a lifter ticking. Possibly a lifter loosened up a little after it has been running. A friend of mine disagrees. He says it is injectors ticking because they are bad. I have no other symptoms. The noise could be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound, like random typing on a mechanical typewriter. This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years. Just got a 2011 Chevy HD3500 Duramax. The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil.
